Easter Show
It is finished.
With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
- Mark 15:37-39
Look what I made for you guys:
Come and see me at the Sydney Writers’ Festival!
The program for this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival has just been released – and I’m in it!
I’ll be taking part in a panel on Sunday May 20th, alongside Emily Rodda, Sue Whiting, and Hilary Rogers:
Cracking the Children’s Market
Sunday May 20, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Philharmonia Studio, Pier 4/5, Hickson Road, Walsh Bay
Ready to give J.K. Rowling a run for her money but not sure where to start? An expert panel of children’s authors and editors – Emily Rodda, Chris Morphew, Sue Whiting and Hilary Rogers – explores what it takes to make it (and to stay on top) in the world of children’s publishing.
Full disclosure: I do not have any magic advice for anyone, BUT it should still be a really fun panel, particularly for aspiring writers. And the event is FREE, so I can safely guarantee that you will get AT LEAST what you paid for.
There will also be book signings, etc. afterwards, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Also appearing on the same day are Alison Lester, Andy Griffiths, Isobelle Carmody, Scott Westerfeld, Justine Larbalestier, John Flanagan, Ursula Duborsarsky, Mal Peet and Oliver Jeffers! Check out the program for more details!
The Phoenix Files: Underground – out now in the UK!
Hey guys,
Just a quick note to say that The Phoenix Files: Underground is out now in the UK! You can pick up a copy here or here or here or at your local book store! Hooray!
Underground is a book of big changes for Luke, Jordan and Peter, and it ends on what is probably my favourite cliffhanger so far (and by “favourite”, I mean “weirdest and most infuriating”).
Hope you love it!
What do you want from a novel?
My mate Alistair recently blogged this list of “10 things I will need from you when you write your novel“.
I reckon I score about a 7 or 8 out of 10 by his list.
What about you? What essentials are you looking for before you pick up a new book?
Interview: “Inside the Writer’s Studio”
Here’s a link to an interview I did with author Tristan Bancks as part of his excellent “Inside the Writer’s Studio” series. Check it out if you’d like to learn a little bit more about the places and spaces where I write – and definitely check out the rest of the series too!
National Year of Reading Event (THIS SATURDAY!)
If you’ve been following my Facebook or Twitter accounts, you might have already seen me talking about an event coming up this Saturday, February 18th at Shearer’s Bookshop in Leichhardt, in celebration of the National Year of Reading.
Here, at last, are a few more details:
There will be chatting, signing, Q&A, and possibly even the dropping of a few hints about the last two Phoenix Files books. And of course, the reading journals, which are sure to be fantastic!
Hope to see some of you there, but please note that I will only be there on the 18th, not the 25th! Having said that, I’m sure it will be a great even with or without me, so definitely still go along on the second weekend if that’s the only time you can make it.
