I’m A HUGE fan of your books. I have read each book that is out at least 7 times and introduced 8 people i know to the series. I loved contact but was a little disappointed that I did not get to discover everything going on between Cat, Mike, Tank and Peter. I hope Peter gets his dream (Jordan) in the end. I was also upset that Officer Reeve died. My Favourite books were Contact and Mutation. You are a fantastic writer.

i love you books, they are fantastic. last time i wrote in i said that my favourite were contact and mutation. but then i read underground and ive changed my mind. my mum bought Pheonix files arrival for christams when it first came out. i thought it was just a random book that she saw in the store. the next day i was bored and i started reading the book and i loved it!

Hi Chris, I came across this site while doing a ggogle search fro Zac Power pictures. My son (Zac!) desperately wants to dress up az Zac Power for his school book week parade – any suggestions on what to wear – all I can find are black and white pictures!!

Unfortunately, that black-and-white silhouette is the only image of Zac that exists!
But from the books, we know that he is pretty obsessed with gelling his hair, so you could get a bit of that happening. A pair of sunglasses probably wouldn’t go astray either.
In the books, he also has several pairs of gadget shoes… so maybe you could stick a few buttons/switches/etc. onto a pair of shoes to turn them into “rocket boots”?
For clothes, I’d go tshirt and jeans (maybe also adapted into “gadgets” somehow?)
And does he have a Gameboy or something that could be adapted into a SpyPad? Or you could make one out of cardboard or something…

This is a bit of a personal question but I would just like to know how much a good writer makes in a year…. sorry if you feel offended or it’s confidential, feel free not the answer the question.
For most authors, it depends on how many books we sell. If a book is sold at full price, the author generally gets something in the neighbourhood of 10% of the cover price. So… maybe a dollar or so per book?
I really enjoyed your second book – so much that I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what happened in book 1. The only complaint I had is that I didn’t realise there was a previous book until I was at a point where I had to finish the second book to find out what happened. Well done – i love finding new australian authors that write intelligent books. Congratulations on your overseas contract – I can see the book doing really well.

i have read book one and two and i think they are very good (of phenix files ) my favourite charecter is jordan and think they are ver good i have read animorphs as well my favourite charecters are marco and tom i have not read the last book so please tell me if tom becomes free of the yerks.

hey chris, just thought i’d say that i’ve finished reading Mutation and i can’t wait for Underground! Jordan’s “gift/power/thingy”- i have a sneaking suspicion that she’s not the only one who has some form of gift. ie- weird kid with the skin clone/ pigment problem etc. when are you coming to melbourne? me and my friends want to know.

I had a great time at the litfest last year, and I’d love to come back to WA again sometime! I’ll let you guys know on the Events page as soon as I lock something in.
In the meantime, Underground will be out in May, at which point most bookstores should have it. If not, I’m sure any bookstore would happily order a copy in for you.
And yes, I do play video games (although not nearly as much as I used to) – I’ve just been playing through Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii, which is really great, and I still play a fair bit of Mario Kart.

I’m well, thanks! Just got back from a camp I was at over the long weekend.
I’ve visited a few other schools recently, but I’m taking a bit of a break from that to focus on editing the next book and preparing for my church’s kids’ camp in July.
As for your stories… I’ve written a few writing tips down here. The other thing I would say is that most stories involve putting some kind of problem in front of your character and then showing how they solve it.
To be honest, I think the website you made for me is pretty awesome the way it is!

I have managed to get a hold of your books and am proceeding to read them with much joy.
I also read your article on the end of the world and loved it for two main reasons:
1. The way it was written, being an author of some renown it is to be expected that you will have some finess with the written word but nevertheless it caught my eye as being very persuasive and constructed in a way to gain maximum audience while still retaining its intent and purpose.
2. The very fact that such a well recognised and public author is proclaiming the God news in such an open and powerful way.
Really hope that you can visit my school some time (Wagga Wagga Christian College) although it may be a bit of a long drive with only little reward at the end.

I always try to be totally up-front about who I am, but at the same time, I reckon it’s important to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone is going to agree with me. Finding that balance can be tricky, so it’s nice to hear that I might have gotten close this time around!
If I make it out to Wagga Wagga, it would probably be as part of a bigger trip around regional Australia. Might have a chat to my speakers’ agency and see if there’s any interest from places nearby…

As a parent who has struggled to get my son to read, I just want to personally thank you for the Zac Power
series, expecially the large print books and the detailed pictures! Since finding these box my 7 year old now has the confidence to tackle these by himself. I am so excited because he is now readling for pleasure and “devouring” many of the books in the various series. These books really work for boys and the anxious parent who thinks their son is never going to want to read for pleasure. Thank you so much, we have had a major reading break through here.
Hi i have read most of the zac powers and now i think im getting a bit old for them so i went onto Phoenix Files. I love them so much they have to be the best book ever. You just get hooked on them. Please try and make the a film. They would have to have alot of information in it and they would be long but i think they would be hit.

Hey im big fan, love the Phoenix Files! When my mum got me the The Phoenix Files 1 Arrival it was just a random book to keep me occupied but it turns out to my my favorite, and why would you want Peter to win Jordan over can’t you see the chemistry with Luke and Jordan
Cant wait for Fallout and im in the middle of Underground i got this on my Birthday (15th) and im up to page 274, been reading non-stop. Yeah, I know what you mean – I was flipping through Arrival again a little while ago, and I’d forgotten how normal everything was back then (by Phoenix standards, anyway…)
Book 5 will be from Jordan’s POV. I figure Peter’s not in a very good state to be narrating a book at this point.

Yeah, and how it wasn’t as hard for them to cause trouble and do what they were trying to do. Now its a little…Challenging, and interesting. And it’s probably better from Jordans Point Of View seeing Peters still..Out of Action.
Hope he can control what ever’s happening to him soon. But i doubt it will be any time in the near future. Or you know…Past..

I was just wondering, How does it take to write one book? I know it’d probably take a while getting the story thought up, wrote down and published but how long does take from day one?
E.g The very first time you started on Arrival, how long did it take till you thought something like ”Okay this is how i want it, and this is it finished and done” Exluding the publishing, just when you had the book done. All 295 pages. Inculding when you were writing out the drafts.
There’s no reason in particular, just wondering because it had to have taken a long time considering how its a really great book (And series). If this question is too personal in any way, don’t answer. By the way, i heard your a follower of god too, im a little confused about the difference between a Christian and a Protestant. Do you know?
Hey Michael,
For me, writing a book or series usually starts with a long period of just coming up with ideas, usually while I’m already working on something else. For example, even though there are still two Phoenix Files books yet to be released, I’ve already started gathering notes and ideas for the next thing I want to write.
Then comes the part where I plan out the story chapter by chapter, which might take a few weeks of solid work. Once that’s done, I get started on the first draft, which usually takes around four months. I send that draft off to my editor, who gets back to me with suggestions, and then I start a second draft, which is another few months again. When that’s done, it goes back to the editor, and that’s when we get into the really nitty-gritty editing, going through sentence by sentence.
All up, it probably takes somewhere between 9 months and a year, not counting that initial brainstorming process, although there is sometimes a bit of overlap between editing one book and drafting the next.

could you give us a tip on what the storys on???
Hi Cris. I was at the readers and writers festival today and i thought it was really inspiring. We have to create our own fantasy storys for english which is hard and i was wondering if you had any ideas of some sort of important object worth putting lives on the line for but it would probably have to be made up or non existing in this world. My plan was to have the story go for around 6,000 word but right now im stuck at about 600 word. I also lovde the information you gave about how the end of the story has a connection with the beggining on the story and im currently using that to try and make some links that will eventually be written up. Who knew story writing could be so hard! any help or tips given would be appreciated,

Hey Natasha,
You’re right – coming up with story ideas can be tricky sometimes. The first question I’d ask about your “important object” is why that object is important? Is it something that could hurt people if it’s not contained? Is it the key to some mystery? Does it give its owners some kind of special power? Would it be really dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands? If you can figure out an answer to that question, I think that would be a good starting point.

I usually do most of my writing in the mornings so, no, I don’t often stay up late writing.
I don’t really have homework anymore, but I can’t say I loved it when I had it – not unless it was something really interesting.
I did see a tiny bit of Shortland Street while I was in NZ, but I don’t think we get it in Australia. We do have other shows that are really similar though.
I actually watched quite a lot of iCarly while I was away – it seems like all Nickelodeon shows these days is that and Spongebob!

hay chris i got back from Bathurst yesterday at 7 the train there was 1 hour late so that made things a little difficult but the manager of country link wanted to get as on a plane but it was booked out so had to catch a train to blacktown (we were in central and we started out at kempsey) then we had to catch a bus to Lithgow threw the blue mauntains (it was awful kasey was throwing up:p) then we got a taxi to bathurst we were droped off at marnies house but she wasn’t home she had to sell raffle tickets so she told us were she
put the key for us. on the way home we caught the bus to lithgow then a train to central station then a train to kempsy (dad showed up like a hobo unshaved in his flanie and his paints with holes in them that are covered in paint from painting the house). on monday mum and kasey walked over to the cemetary to see how far it was to walk there and they found a park then the next day me and kasey learnt to fly on the swing by jumping of the seat when we go high i did to funny yet stupid i let go of the swing but didnt like leap off so i landed back on the seat then feel of again and almost got hit bye the swing. And another thing i lept off the swing and i was going so high that i kept going up insteed of flying through the air i went higher than the top of the swing. i had fun at bathurst.so what have you been doing?

Your books are sooo good and thank you for becoming an author and creating magnificent books like this. Is it true that doomsday is being released in 2013? Omg I’m too excited………..hehe anyways, I hope you write more books like this. All my friends love them and I read the Zac Power books with my cousin. Lol I’m practically writing an essay but I really enjoy the read and they are a novel that is just impossible to put down, it’s like the world goes anti gravity when you open the phoenix files books.

I love The Phoenix Files soooooooooo much! I am addicted to them! I have read through the series (almost) twice in a week!! My favorite character is Jordan because of her personality and I always imagin myself as her ( probably because I’m a girl…) I lent the first one to a friend and he loved it!! He is now up to fallout and I am up to underground for the second time:) I live in a small town in Victoria about an hour and 45 minutes southwest of Melbourne.
