FlashForward
FlashForward premiered on Australian TV last night.
In the US, it seems like ABC is pushing hard to set the show up as a replacement for Lost, which is finishing up next year.
And, in the first episode at least, the similarities are pretty blatant.
Our hero wakes up, confused and disoriented…

He stumbles into a disaster area filled with screaming victims and twisted metal…

There’s a gratuitous wreckage explosion…

Animals mysteriously showing up in places they shouldn’t…

Close-ups of thematically important board game pieces…

Not to mention the direct shout-out in the form of this billboard…

Having said all that, FlashForward’s premise (the whole world blacks out for 2 minutes, 17 seconds and each person gets a glimpse of their own future) is still extremely cool, and the pilot did a great job of setting up the world of show.
So long as FlashForward can remember to tell its own story instead of just retelling someone else’s, it’s definitely shaping up to be something worth watching.
